David Gogo
Vibe (Cordova Bay Records)

David Gogo will be well known to many in Canada, his homeland. Recently his profile has been gaining altitude further afield & his latest Cordova Bay release, "Vibe", will benefit his campaign admirably. In true Gogo fashion this album opens with a bang as the opening track "Love In The City" kicks your speakers into action, the thrills last for the next 42 minutes & 31 seconds as all 10 tracks unfold. Special guest appearances from Tom Wilson & Jeff Healey add a further dimension . . . well, you just can't keep these Maples Award crowd apart. Although I detect elements of FM-style pop-rock (wash your mouth, kid & use soap) in "Hey Juanita" it is immediately swept aside by the following track, the very Bluesy "I'll Do Anything". All songs are Gogo originals with co-writes credited to Tom Wilson, John Capek & Craig Northey. The album, in my opinion, closes better than it opened with the delicious but lamentably brief duet with Jeff Healy in "She's Alright", before the powerful Blues, "Why Don't You Show Me", closes the show to a standing ovation for David Gogo's "Vibe".
